Joana Faria wins at Molecular Parasitology Meeting XXXI

Joana Faria’s award winning streak continues. This time she has  received an award for her oral presentation at the Genetics Society of America’s Molecular Parasitology Meeting XXI. This prestigious conference is usually held in Woods Hole, MA, USA. This year the conference, like so many others, was held virtually. There were 850 attendees and 250 presenters.

Joana’s talk was titled The VSG-exclusion (VEX) complex orchestrates VSG allele-exclusive interactions with the spliced-leader locus in trypanosomes . You can read a pre-print on the work she presented. Joana was 1 of only 5 winning talks.

Thanks to a generous grant from the Burroughs Wellcome Fund, Joana wins complimentary registration to the American Society for Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTHM) 2020 Annual Meeting in November and it also covers funding for her to attend the ASTHM  in-person Annual Meeting next year in National Harbor, Maryland on November 17-21, 2021.
