Joana Faria is finalist in Infectious Images Photographic competition

Dr Joana Faria has been chosen as a finalist for the Infectious Diseases Hub photography competition 2019. Joana is a member of Professor David Horn’s group at WCAIR and studies the molecular mechanisms that underpin antigenic variation in African trypanosomes.

Joana’s image is called ‘The VEX’ed Trypanosome’ and shows what happens to trypanosome variant surface glycoprotein (VSG) expression when you knockdown the expression of  the genes VEX1 and VEX2 which sustain and coordinate VSG monoallelic expression.

The 5 finalists were chosen by a panel of judges but now it is time for the public to choose their favourite photo.

To view all finalists and vote for your favourite visit the competition website  before  15th February where you can read about the scientists and their chosen images.
