There have been lots of changes during the Covid-19 pandemic. One thing that has remained the same is how busy our public engagement team is – even if our formats have changed!
Dundee Science Centre have had some fantastic success with their Science@Home programme over lockdown. With a different theme each week, they’ve given everyone fun activities to keep scientific minds engaged while schools have been working remotely. Together with our colleagues from the School of Life Sciences, we created content for a Microbe Week. With scavenger hunts, a word search, art activities and, of course, practical science activities, we had a fantastic response to the week.
We’ve managed to continue the partnership beyond just the digital realm. Through DSC’s community links, it became clear that there was a need to reach those without the internet. Again in partnership with the SLS team, we were able to create a new booklet of fun things to do, and provide a box of kit to accompany it. This includes things like toothbrushes, pens, pencils, and even a copy of our lovely book, Kirsty’s Project. We hope this can make a real difference to families in Dundee.
