Why it’s in the garden

Alliums (including onions, leek and chives) contain allicin which is release as part of the plants. It is an anti-bacterial and has been found to protect the heart from diabetes induced cardiomyopathy.

A bulbous flowering plant

Care and Maintenance

Best planted annually in late autumn. Straight into prepared ground, one clove will give 1 bulb the following summer. Plant each clove at a depth of 2cm (1″) below the surface of the soil and 10cm (4″) apart.
