New LifeSpace Exhibition previews 31st January

Disentangle

Science in a Gendered World

An exhibition of contemporary art, historical objects and scientific case studies that consider how gender can be ‘seen’ or ‘positioned’ in the world, and the effect of these perceptions on science.

The latest exhibition in LifeSpace  features works of art by Kira O’Reilly & Jennifer Willet, Benny Nemerofsky Ramsay, Clara Ursitti and Ker Wallwork and selected objects from the museum collections at the University of Dundee.

A display of Professor Londa Schiebinger’s project Gendered Innovations demonstrates how accounting for sex and gender in the scientific process affects results.

The exhibition continues a discussion started during events in Summer 2018 titled Doing Science in a Gendered World.

Curated by Cicely Farrer for LifeSpace in collaboration with Athena SWAN and with support from colleagues in School of Life Sciences.

Thanks to Dr Melissa D’Ascenzio, Prof Sarah Cook, Dr Joana Magalhães, Prof Inke Näthke, Dr Undine Sellbach and all colleagues who have supported in the development of this project.

Come to the exhibition preview on Thursday 31 January 2019, 5-7pm and hear the curators, artists and scientists introduce the exhibition.

You can visit the exhibition until  6 April 2019
