In Conversation With…Beatriz Baragana

A new online event series…

We’re excited to announce the start of a new series of Teams Live events. ‘In Conversation With…’ will kick off on Thursday September 3 at 4pm – follow this link to join us. We’ll not only be exploring the science that happens at the Wellcome Centre for Anti-Infectives Research, but also meeting some of the people behind that work. You’ll find out who they are, where they’re from and some of the interesting twists and turns along the way that led them to where they are now. They’ll be fun, informal events, a quick 45-minute way to wind down your Thursday.

For our first session, we’ll be In Conversation With Beatriz Baragaña. She is a Medicinal Chemistry Team Leader and Drug Discovery Portfolio Manager in the Drug Discovery Unit. Over the past ten years she’s been involved in drug discovery projects for malaria and, more recently, cryptosporidiosis. Her team’s work has led to the discovery of a multistage pre-clinical candidate for treating malaria (Baragaña et al., Nature 2015). This candidate is currently in Phase 1 clinical trials. Before this she worked in industry, with NPIL Pharmaceuticals/Avecia as team leader on antibody drug conjugates for oncology, and Bayer AG, working on cardiovascular indications.
