2021 marked 15 years of the DDU and the report shows there is plenty to celebrate with the delivery of 4 preclinical candidates, securing over £100 million in research funding, growing to 130 translational scientists and enabling the spin-out of 6 new companies.
Despite the ongoing challenges of COVID the report shows the portfolios have continued to deliver strong progress and a number of key programmes have been refunded by Wellcome and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Pages 16-21 explain how the £18.7 million investment from Wellcome in the Wellcome Centre for Anti-Infectives Research, of which the DDU is a key part, is allowing investment in development of new methods and technologies to accelerate innovation in drug discovery.
