Practical Placement Information

Visas

Support will be provided when you have been awarded a place.  Placements in Dundee will either be as a visiting student, for those registered in a Master’s or a PhD student, or a visiting researcher if you are working as a scientist.  Both have different pathways for visa application.  The training team will confirm the pathway and provide all required paperwork for your visa applications.

Stipend

The placements are funded by the Wellcome Trust.  As such, you will be entitled to a stipend of £22,976 per annum (pro-rata).

The training team will support you in opening a UK bank account to allow monthly payments.  Payments will be made in advance.

If you require support for visa costs, these can be paid in advance by the training team and your stipend reduced accordingly.

Accommodation

We are aware that renting accommodation in a new country can be daunting.  We are here to support you in finding somewhere to live while you work in the University.

Options include:

  • university accommodation (only for student route and if available)
  • support to find privately rented flats near the university

Travel

WCAIR will pay for one return flight from your country to Scotland and arrange for a collection at the airport to your accommodation.

Flights can be booked once your visa has been approved.  Flights will usually be to airports in Edinburgh or Glasgow.
